GHS® (Grand Helical Scan) is a mechanism originally developed to enable laser high-speed hole punching, which is not possible with galvanometers or polygon mirrors. It was the result of a single genius’s conception, the efforts of hard-working employees, and the cooperation of engineers in the Tsubame-Sanjo area, who worked tirelessly to make it possible to process shapes that were difficult to process using machine tools. GHS® continues to evolve.

It is well known that picosecond lasers and femtosecond lasers can produce nano-periodic structure (LIPSS) black markings. However, no fun with that! So, we challenged again with an inexpensive picosecond laser (20 picoseconds) with a long pulse width! Black marking gives a more luxurious look to high-end cutlery and tableware made in Tsubame-Sanjo area.

The customer requests to shorten the setup time and to punch film at the same speed as Thompson blades and Pinnacle blades. And of course, the film conveyance must not be stopped!　Is that possible?

Unlike painting, the pitch-black structural color is clear, indelible, and luxurious, and the marking gives a more luxurious feel to high-class cutlery and tableware made in Tsubame-Sanjo area. But it is not black. No! I have to do something… But isn’t it amazing that the color is the same as the wavelength?
