Laser processing of porous metal Celmet! What about cutting and punching?

As a carrier, Porous Metal Celmet is used in batteries to improve the filling, retention, and current collection properties of active materials. It is also used in many other fields such as heat radiating fins, filters, electromagnetic shielding, and structural material. In this project, in order to reduce the weight of Aluminum Celmet (t=1mm), holes were processed with a laser. As seen in the photo, holes were processed periodically and accurately. It should be noted that straight holes were processed with almost no change in the laser incident and emitting diameters. Cutting and hollowing out of complex shapes is also possible. In addition, processing of other Porous Metal Alloys, Celmet, is also possible in the same way.

Although this experiment was conducted using a small-scale jig, large area processing is also possible using ingenious jigs.
