At FILMTECH JAPAN, which will be held from Oct. 4 (Wed) to Oct. 6(Fri), 2023, GHS scanner that enables high-speed laser processing on films and metal foils conveyed by roll-to-roll, laser punching technology, and half-cutting technology for composite materials will be introduced. This is the introduction of laser processing technology that can keep up with the speed of roll-to-roll conveyance for the first time.
As part of ADEKA’s research on the creation of ultra-high-capacity cathode, laser hole drilling was performed on the 3D porous metal body Aluminum Celmet. High-speed punching technology for metal foil and resin film without using a die is a technology that simultaneously punches holes larger than the laser spot diameter in an instant, not in a single stroke. A special optical system is installed in the combination of film and laser conveyed by roll-to-roll.
As a result, an unprecedented functional film was created that enables simultaneous multi-punching and mass production at high speed.
A laser punches holes with diameters ranging from 50 µm to 1,000 µm, which far exceed the laser spot diameter, in metal foil and resin film that is conveyed by roll-to-roll, like a pressing process. There is no deformation of the material due to processing reaction force, and no shavings due to the thinness of the material. Laser punching can instantly punch about 300 holes at a time, making a significant contribution to SDGs in the world of organic synthesis and decomposition.

Porous Metal Celmet has up to 98% porosity and is expected to improve the filling, retention, and current collection of active materials in nickel-hydrogen batteries and is expected to be applied to many applications such as electrode materials for fuel cells and hydrogen generators targeting the “hydrogen society”.

We have developed a roll-to-roll conveying system for films and metal foils up to 1,300 mm wide.
At the same time, by synchronizing the laser with a unique optical system (GHS), the company has also developed a technology that enables accurate and consistent hole processing (φ15 μm to φ30 μm) on the entire surface of wide films, and is developing a unique optical element to achieve hole diameters that are not limited by the diameter of the laser beam.
